The Holiday Tea Reveal – Mighty Leaf Tea Canada’s ‘Orange Dulce Tea’

Mighty Leaf Tea Canada’s ‘Orange Dulce Tea’

Mighty Leaf Tea Canada’s ‘Orange Dulce Tea’

I find since the holidays are amongst us, I am constantly channelling teas that have a liquor element to them but without the knock out effect.  I love the holidays for the indulgence but also finding the balance in being kind to my body.

Orange Dulce from Mighty Leaf Tea Canada is a luscious, rich brew teeming with notes of orange, vanilla and jasmine blossoms. Made with Ceylon and China black teas, Orange Dulce brews up a fragrant and full bodied dark tea. Reminiscent of an aged Port, the flavour is sure to please.

Orange Dulce can be drunk like Organic Earl Grey, in the afternoon and after dinner. Instead of serving port after dinner, surprise your guest with this rich, chocolately tea. It pairs well with spicy and nutty foods.  Imagine wintery nights or coming in after trekking through snow and ice to this hot cup of tea. It doesn’t get any better than this.

Don’t forget to enter my The Great Holiday Tea Giveaway!  Here’s how it works – once a week until December 24th 2012 I will highlight a gorgeous tea from The Urban Tea Merchant’s TWG Tea or Mighty Leaf Tea Canada.  All I ask is that you subscribe to my blog (already subscribed readers consider yourselves entered).  Easy right?

5 Ways To Keep Your Breasts Healthy

Ladies, I thought the following from the femmed.com was poignant.  Please take a minute to read.  To my lovely male readers, I encourage you to pass the following to the women in your life.  No matter what we want and what we lose, our life and health is the most important thing.  Something with age becomes more and more important.  Love yourself along with your mind, body and soul.  Happy Monday!

;)

Let’s face it ladies: whether your cup size is an A, B, or double-D, we’re all at risk of the Big C – breast cancer. So what can you do to keep your girls protected?

1. Have A Glass Of the Purple Stuff

Reducing estrogen levels in your body can help to prevent the nearly 80% of cancers that need estrogen to grow. Block the binding of estrogen with a daily glass of red wine, which contains resveratrol, a natural estrogen-reducer. Limit it to one drink per day though – more than that can contribute to increased breast cancer risk. Not a drinker? Try fresh grapes with the skin still on.

2. Embrace Your Touchy-Feely Side

Make room in your schedule for a little time with the girls at least once a month. You don’t need to light candles or play soul music… just take a little time in the shower to give them some well-deserved attention, using this self-breast-exam guideline.

3. Check In To Detox

Yup, even your breasts need to be detoxed! Take a specially-formulated breast health supplement like femMED’s Breast Health to detox your estrogen and increase the amount of 2-hydroxyestorone in your urine. Indole-3 carbinol, milk thistle, Vitamin D and other vitamins you’re probably not getting enough of in your daily diet are all combined in this estrogen-reducing supplement.

4. Become a Lean, Mean, Cancer-fighting Machine

Yah, yah, we all want to lose weight to fit into our skinny jeans… but somehow we lack the motivation to resist those warm fresh rolls at dinner. But saying goodbye to your rolls means that you’ll reduce the places that your body can store estrogen. This is especially important after menopause, when adipose tissue (let’s call it fat) becomes your body’s main source of estrogen.

5. Go Green

Going green with cruciferous vegetables such as kale, broccoli, bok choy fills your body with potential anticancers. As an added bonus, these vegetables also fill you up with very little caloric intake, helping you with Project Skinny Jeans (see point 4 above). Think you’re not a fan of these vegetables? Mix up how you prepare them until you find the perfect preparation for your pallet: cooked cabbage, make way for coleslaw! Can’t stand kale? You’ll love it oven-roasted and dusted with sea-salt for the perfect guilt-free movie snack.

Smith Tea

When I was on holiday a few weeks back, I brought along some yummy teabags from Smith Tea.  I had only recently heard about Smith Tea after a recent trip to Montreal where my friend had chosen one of their Chamomile Tea’s after a lovely dinner at Garde-Manger, Chuck Hughes chic restaurant.

Smith Tea maker is a wonderfully small tea works that produces the finest, freshest full leaf teas, tonics and elixirs handcrafted in very small batches by master tea maker Steve Smith and his talented, hand-picked team.

Steve Smith started his career as a manager of the first natural foods store in Portland, Oregon, and he and two partners founded the Stash Tea Company, which gradually grew to become one of America’s favourite consumer brands.

Stash was acquired in 1993 by Yamamotoyama, the oldest tea company in Japan, and Smith left to pursue a new vision. Working in his home kitchen, he created a new super-premium brand based on the artful blending of the highest-quality teas and botanicals.

The resulting “Reincarnation of Tea” came to be known as Tazo, and Steve its head tea shaman.

In 1999, Tazo was acquired by Starbucks, and Smith and his team continued to lead the company until 2006. During this time, he concocted over 60 of Tazo’s most popular drinks.

The three tea’s I sampled from the Smith Tea brand whilst on holiday were:  No. 20 Bai Hao Oolong, No. 21 Keemun Hao Ya B (Full Leaf Black Tea) and No. 16 Honeybush.  They were great summer teas that I could have with milk or just as alone.  They were warm, aromatic and a decadent accent to my day.

No. 20 Bai Hao Oolong

A  Chinese oolong, hand harvested in mid-summer. Bai Hao has large, tightly-twisted leaves with an abundance of silver tips. More fermented than many oolongs, it brings lovely peachy notes with a light liquor and aroma.

Ingredients

Full leaf China oolong tea from Fujian Province.

No. 21 Keemun Hao Ya B (Full Leaf Black Tea)

Hao Ya B is one of the finest grades of Keemun tea from the mountainous Anhui Province in China. It has a thin, wiry, tightly twisted leaf with a slightly smoky flavour and aroma. Excellent straight or with milk and sugar.

Ingredients

Full leaf China Keemun black tea from Anhui Province.

No. 16 Honeybush

Honeybush grows in the western Cape of South Africa and has a distinctly honey-like aroma. Hand harvested in September and October, it is naturally caffeine free with a sweet, peachy flavour and a pinkish golden hue in the cup.

Ingredients

South African honeybush from the Western Cape region.
