Riot Fest & Expo Toronto Band Spotlight: Buzzcocks and Pup

As I mentioned last week, Riot Fest & Expo Toronto is a month away.  Now is your chance to win weekend tickets to Riot Fest & Expo Toronto.

All you will need to do is sign up to Thirty Four Flavours Facebook, Twitter or email subscription to enter the draw.  When you have signed up please send me a Facebook message, a tweet or email telling me which Riot Fest & Expo Toronto band you are interested in catching Sept 6th and 7th in Toronto.  Easy peasy!  I will announce the winner on Monday August 18th, 2014.

Now back to business.

For the next few weeks leading up to Riot Fest & Expo Toronto I will be introducing you to some of the bands on their festival roster.  This week’s band highlights some old school Brit punk rockers and some local from the 416.

Buzzcocks

Aww boys from Manchester.  😉

Melodically the Buzzcocks won me over in my teens with their Clash sensibilities and their minimized bravado.

Regarded as an important influence on the Manchester’s music scene, the independent record label movement, punk rock, power pop, pop punk and indie rock – The Buzzcocks like a true northerner had a work ethic behind their brawn.

After achieving commercial success with singles that fused pop craftsmanship with rapid-fire punk energy – their music graciously earned them the term “punk masterpiece” and influenced generations of musicians in its wake.  They are true punk rock trailblazer’s.

Never mind the Sex Pistols, it’s time to feel the northern love and meet the Buzzcocks if you haven’t already.  If you don’t catch them at Riot Fest, you will regret it.

Pup

Oh Dear Lord, Pup is one of Toronto’s best kept punk rock secrets.  I really hope that there aren’t any Riot Fest & Expo Toronto Band scheduling conflicts because I am already feeling the pressure to catch each and every band appearing at the fest.

Pup reminds me of Quicksand from the 90’s.  Tight riffs, a lot of darkness and yet totally relatable.

With prestigious Polaris Music Prize mentions and Rolling Stone Magazine coining them “2014’s breakout rock acts” – you will be catching these guys at a pivotal time in their burgeoning career.

Till next week for my next installment of the Riot Fest & Expo Toronto Band Spotlight.  Don’t forget to enter my Riot Fest & Expo Toronto Ticket Giveaway.
